The BMW Z4 is the epitome of style on four wheels.儲存倉 By Samuel EeTHE BMW Z4 will always be the car that broke the rules with its radical mix of convex and concave surfaces, and even if the second-generation car has toned down its design language, it is still a striking roadster. The latest update ensures it maintains that image. The two-seater Z4 with the folding hardtop has been facelifted and given a trendy new interior trim package. From the outside, its elongated profile remains unchanged, with an impossibly long nose, oversized kidney grilles and low tail. But it has new "eyes", in the form of headlamps updated with white LED rings used as daytime running lights and new indicators.Inside, the Z4 gets a new palette of colours. Matching the Valencia Orange Metallic exterior paintwork - one of three new colours - is the Design Pure Traction trim package. The black leather seats have orange contrast stitching as well as an accent stripe down the centre. This snazzy stripe is orange flanked by two thin white lines. There's a lot more of the bright hue in front, with the lower section of the instrument panel also in orange, although the upper fascia remains black for practical reasons but with a copious amount of orange stitching. Also cool is the filigree-like metal weave trim strip which surprisingly complements the cabin colours despite its bright, ornamental appearance.Under the long bonnet, the Z4 continues to be available with three petrol engine choices - a two-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 184 hp and 270 Nm; the same unit tuned for 245 hp and 350 Nm; and a three-litre inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine with 340 hp and 450 Nm.The last one is called the BMW Z4 sDrive35is M Sport. Apart from the overboost function which is able to produce up to 500 Nm of torque briefly, the straight-six engine of the Z4 sDrive35is transfers its power to the rear wheels via a seven-迷你倉沙田peed dual clutch gearbox, instead of the four-cylinder version's eight-speed automatic transmission.A pair of steering wheel-mounted paddle shifts allow the dual clutch transmission to be manually operated, and the box is not only brilliantly crisp and quick but also eager to change down at high engine speeds. With the full ensemble of torque, this roadster will not disappoint under hard acceleration, in a straight line or curve, with that characteristic BMW trait of control and stability. But the Z4 experience is only complete when driven with the roof down. When the two-piece hardtop is electrically folded away, its delicious exhaust backfire not only becomes more obvious but the perception of speed is enhanced by sitting close to the ground and practically over the rear axle of this small open-top car.On a cool night with a clear road in front, the Z4 is almost magical. But it also feels somewhat heavy and less nimble than the competition. Maybe it is because there are newer and slicker alternatives. The Z4's instrumentation also shows its age, with less clarity than some of the competition and a small multi-function display that lacks options like a digital speedo. Or perhaps it can be said that the Z4 is a more focused sports car than the rest of its segment.Whatever the reason, it does not diminish the fact that it is a well-styled roadster with immense attitude and road presence. The car is even more distinctive with M Sport equipment like the M bodykit and fat 19-inch wheels. If looks could kill, the BMW Z4 would be an assassin in an orange jumpsuit.samuelee@sph.com.sgSPECSBMW Z4 sDrive35is M SportEngine 2,979cc inline-6 turbochargedTransmission 7-speed dual clutchMax power 340 hp @ 5,900 rpmMax torque 450 Nm @ 1,500 rpm (500 Nm with Overboost)0-100 kmh 5.5 secsTop speed 250 kmhCO2 emissions 210 g/kmAverage OMV $58,000Price $356,560 (with COE)Distributor Performance MotorsTel 6319 0100迷你倉價錢
