Not to be a curmudgeon, but does anyone actually enjoy Christmas? Genuinely? Forget for a moment the stress of gift shopping- what about all the awkward dinners and parties you are obliged to attend? And then there's mulled wine.self storage We are taught that adding anything to red wine or serving it at the wrong temperature is close to sacrilege, so why do we accept this awful spicy hot froth for the month of December? Bah humbug! It's not all bad, though. Mince pies are alright, I suppose, and, of course, there's receiving presents. So if you're hoping for something horological in your stocking this year, I've put together a few ideas for you to get on with dropping hints about.First up we have the Movado Red Label Calendomatic (above), which, aside from being brilliantly named, is a cool looking mechanical watch priced at only HK$19,500. The first Calendomatic watch was released in 1946, and the 2013 version updates things with a 24-hour global time indication: the matt black dial features a rotating disk of cities at the centre of the watch which then tally up with the fixed 24-hour scale on the outer rim. The case is sized at 42mm and comes in stainless steel, with the strap options being either a stainless-steel bracelet or matt-black calfskin leather.Next we move up in price slightly with the Eterna Madison dress watch (right), which has three things going for it. Firstly, it's an Eterna迷你倉 meaning it has more than 150 years of watchmaking heritage and experience behind it. Secondly, its slight tonneau shape and the black alligator leather strap and black sunray finish dial are a lovely counterpoint to the steel case. And thirdly, it's HK$35,000.Yes, this watch is an absolute steal at that price and, what's more, it comes with a bit of technological trickery in the so-called Eterna Spherodrive, in the bottom half of the dial. This is a ball bearing-mounted, spring barrel that allows for less friction, less lubrication and therefore more efficient use of energy inside the movement. Finally, we have something a little more expensive- OK, a lot more expensive- but a real gem. Priced at HK$250,000, the Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Rising Hours (far right) is a great sporty and complicated watch- and not just because Nicolas Cage loves it. Featuring an in-house movement, the MB R220, the Rising Hours is further testament to Montblanc's rapid development as a fine watchmaker. The central feature of the timepiece is the dial, with hours showing in the window at the 12 o'clock position, minutes off centre, classy day and date windows on either side and classically designed chronograph subdials dominating the bottom half of the watch. The case is sized at 43mm and comes in red gold, with the strap in brown leather. The Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Rising Hours is limited to 28 pieces.迷你倉樂器
