Source: Jordan Times, AmmanDec.迷你倉將軍澳 11--AMMAN -- Local and international experts will provide intensive training and mentorship to around 30 tech start-ups in Jordan next week.On December 16 and 17, local start-ups are scheduled to undergo intensive training as part of the Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) initiative, organisers said on Tuesday.The experts include Jeff Hoffman, CEO of ColorJar, Chuck Eesley, assistant professor at Stanford University, Faysal Sohail, venture capitalist and Kari Hanson, former project director at SEED Design Lab at Stanford University."During the two-day boot camp, the Jordanian start-ups will have the chance to get acquainted with skills and practices that will help better manage their ventures and make them successful," said Cathleen A. Campbell, president and CEO of the US Civilian Research and Development Foundation, which leads the GIST initiative in partnership with the US Department of State.After the two-day boot camp, to be held in cooperation with Oasis500, 15 start-ups will be selected to take part in the GIST Demo Day on December 18, where they will have the chance to pitch their ideas to about 200 investors, Campbell told The Jordan Times."Our objective is to help start-ups in Jordan take their projects to the next level and... build networks between them and potential investors," she added."At GI迷你倉尖沙咀T, we are keen on enhancing the skills of entrepreneurs as well, as we believe that is key for creating jobs and making their ventures succeed."Campbell said about 60 Jordanians have applied to benefit from GIST programmes over the past two years, adding that 12 of them have won awards and mentorship.The GIST initiative builds entrepreneurial ecosystems in 54 countries across the Middle East, Turkey, Asia and Africa by identifying, coaching and funding the most promising technology entrepreneurs through its flagship competitions, start-up acceleration services, online social media platform and interactive mentorship programmes.The initiative holds several competitions, including the GIST Technology Idea Competition, which is designed to encourage and support technology and science entrepreneurs to launch and/or grow a company in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Turkey.In partnership with the MIT Enterprise Forum from the Pan-Arab region, GIST also launched the Business Plan Competition to all technology entrepreneurs with promising new technologies and companies, according to Campbell.Winners with the best business plans receive several cash awards and mentorship under this competition, she said.Copyright: ___ (c)2013 the Jordan Times (Amman, Jordan) Visit the Jordan Times (Amman, Jordan) at .jordantimes.com Distributed by MCT Information Servicesmini storage
