Source: Cape Cod Times, Hyannis, Mass.mini storageOct. 07--POCASSET -- Cape Cod Harley-Davidson hosted about 50 soldiers Saturday for a free barbecue lunch, with help from The Lobster Trap in Bourne and Late July Organic Snacks in Barnstable, after learning the cafeteria at Camp Edwards was closed because of the small number of soldiers training on the base.Although about 9,000 National Guardsmen would have typically been training at Guard installations across the state over the weekend, the government shutdown had reduced that figure to 300, said Lt. Col. James Sahady, director of public affairs for the Massachusetts National Guard.Although most drills were suspended over the weekend, one unit spent Saturday at Camp Edwards as part of a medical assessment, a drill required for units that have recently returned from overseas, Sahady said."We didn't open up the cafeteria for this because there were so few people," said Sahady, who noted that approximately 750 of 930 National Guard technicians were furloughed as well.For a Saturday drill迷你倉 soldiers are given a noontime meal, either in the form of a hot meal or ready-to-eat meal, commonly known as an MRE.The practice is typical when there are too few soldiers on the base to make opening the cafeteria cost efficient, Sahady said."This is one of those instances where it made sense to give out MREs," Sahady said.When Cat Wilson, marketing manager at Cape Cod Harley-Davidson, heard about the situation she was inspired to throw a free barbecue for the soldiers."We fired up the grills and were serving from noon to 2," said Wilson.About 50 soldiers showed up for hot dogs, hamburgers and chips."When Cat reached out to me for help, it wasn't even a question," said David DeLancey, general manager for The Lobster Trap.
