Luckily, the tax-free holiday is right around the corner, giving parents an edge when it comes to purchasing many school basics and more.For a lot of businesses, this will be one of the largest crowds they get all year.Rob Kujath, president of Baillio's, says it's one of the busier weekends for his store. "Overall, it's a very strong sales weekend."Some businesses, like Baillio's, have taken the tax-free holiday to another level. According to Kujath, the store goes "tax-free" on all items, not just the ones exempt by the state. Baillio's pays the tax for its customers on all items in the store, Kujath says.S.U. Mahesh, director of communications for New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department, says the state believes shoppers will save an estimated $3.5 million to $4 million.Qualifying items range from clothes to computers, according to the List of Taxable and Nontaxable Items for New Mexico's Gross Receipts Tax Holiday on .tax.newmexico.gov.Most clothing and footwear are exempt if they are under $100, except for athletic or specialized items such as baseball gloves or shoes wit存倉 cleats.Accessories such as purses or hair clips are taxable, as well. The majority of hats, pants, dresses, coats, socks and other major necessities are tax-free.Computers are exempt from taxes if they cost $1,000 or less, and computer accessories that are no more than $500. Some of these items include speakers, tablets and printers.School supplies including binders, composition books, erasers and highlighters that are under $30 are exempt from taxes. Backpacks are exempt if they are under $100, according to the website.Tax-free holidayThe tax-free holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, and goes until midnight Sunday, Aug. 4.Qualifying merchandise includes:Clothing or shoes priced less than $100School supplies less than $30Desktop, laptop and notebook computers $1,000 or lessComputer hardware $500 or lessYou can find more information and a list of taxable and exempt items at .tax.newmexico. gov.
