Source: Detroit Free PressJan.self storage 23--On the eve of the two-year-anniversary of Jane Bashara's death, her husband returned to court, asked people not to forget and called his wife "wonderful."Bob Bashara, 56, of Grosse Pointe Park is charged with first-degree murder in her death but has maintained his innocence, despite an admission from his former handyman, Joseph Gentz, who said he killed Jane Bashara at her husband's direction and later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.Today's hearing was two-pronged with the pretrial taking place after more than 50 minutes of arguments regarding a raid at attorney Dean Valente's office. He was Bashara's personal attorney, and Valente's attorney, Henry Scharg, wants items seized returned.Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Vonda Evans raised her voice when discussing why another judge signed a search warrant in a case she is overseeing.Evans said the matter was before her in September, but prosecutors went to Wayne County Circuit Judge Michael Hathaway to get a search warrant signed. She called the move "troubling.""I am the presiding judge over this trial,' Evans said. "Anything else will come through me."Evans plans to conduct an evidentiary hearing in the matter and lawyers in the case will return to court Feb. 18, the same day the judg迷你倉 expects to determine if a new defense attorney will be appointed to Bashara or if she will remove his current lawyers from the case.She called Bashara's atttorney, Mark Procida, a "great" lawyer and said he has a stellar reputation, but her concerns are about the amount of resources needed for the case and she's not sure if the public defender's office has them."It's a funding issue," Evans said, adding she wishes she could give the defender's office money.Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Lisa Lindsey warned it could take six to nine months for a new attorney to get up to speed.Evans disagreed."You also have not lived with the case the way I've lived with the case," Lindsey responded.Bashara's lawyer wants him to have pens, pads and a magnifying glass to go over court documents in the case.Bashara, who had said he had eye surgery on Monday, held up a small pencil he has to use in jail to take notes and showed Evans."That's inadequate," Evans said. "That little pencil.
